PROFESSIONAL Meet the team
Stuart has a long history of working in corporate and consulting roles across the financial services industry. Having qualified and served as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG, Stuart then spent 20 years in the asset management industry in general management, operations, distribution and marketing roles at Schroders, Friends Provident and Flemings/Save & Prosper.
In 2001 he joined Cofunds – becoming CEO and driving it through its early growth phase. Thereafter, he joined Close Asset Management, taking responsibility for retail distribution, execution-only business and adviser acquisition. In 2012 he established Soprano Mergers & Acquisitions and has since advised a cross-section of different businesses on how best to realise value in a rapidly-changing marketplace.
Daniel has over 12 years experience in senior finance, strategy and management roles. He has been Head of Strategy and Senior Finance Director for a global bluechip company, CEO and Managing Director of companies in the UK and Germany as well as a member of the Executive Committee of a leading UK financial services company. Daniel has worked directly for the Group CFO and Group COO of one of Europe’s largest independent financial services companies where he advised on strategy, finance, value creation, turn-around management and M&A.
Daniel studied Economics and Management in Germany, the Netherlands and the USA. He holds a masters degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Hannover (Germany). In addition to the Ph.D. he also completed his executive education at INSEAD (FRA) and Stanford Graduate School of Business (USA).
Martyn has over 30 years of experience within the financial services industry, predominantly based within the advising sector. He has successfully set up and sold an IFA practice, Chartwell Investment Management, sat on the board of Chase de Vere Investments and was Managing Director of Jelf Financial Planning – a regional based IFA firm. During his years in the industry he has been responsible for the acquisition and selling of different sized businesses and brings a valuable insight from both the side of the vendor as well as the acquirer. Martyn’s experience and knowledge of the IFA landscape will prove invaluable to Soprano’s clients.
Alex joins the Executive tier of Soprano with a wealth of experience gained from his time as a Senior Associate in a specialist business broker focusing on the IFA market. He is client focused with acute business acumen that allows for an in-depth and professional appraisal for potential business. He is the president of a property holding Company in the USA and has previously held director level positions in other management businesses both in the USA and UK. He has a sound knowledge of change management and corporate restructures and is an innovative thinker. Alex is a key driving force in the business team at Soprano.
Robin has been actively employed in the financial services industry since 1975 and is an excellent man-manager with strong inter-personal skills. He has recruited and developed highly successful individuals & sales teams on a number of occasions. He joined Soprano Consulting, as an Associate, in 2018. Previously, he held a number of Head of Sales roles at businesses including Hawksmoor, Saltus and Williams de Broë, where he was responsible for business development & increasing sales of Discretionary Fund Management business from financial advisers.
Robin has also acted as an Examiner for the Chartered Insurance Institute’s financial planning examinations. He was Chairman of the Life Insurance Association (LIA) Hants & Dorset Region in 2003/4 and a Member Director of the Personal Finance Society (PFS) in 2007/8.
Robin, a keen sportsman, is currently Treasurer of Burridge Cricket Club, a season ticket holder at Portsmouth FC and Ambassador for the Lashing World XI cricket team. He likes real ale, wine, Indian food, travelling to warm destinations and achieving the best in life.
Andrew graduated from Oxford University and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London, specialising as a corporate tax specialist. He spent eight years working in the City as a corporate finance adviser with HSBC Investment Bank and as a principal of the Baring English Growth Fund, a private equity fund focussed on mid-market transactions sponsored by ING Barings. He has extensive transaction analysis and execution experience in relation to M&A, MBOs / MBIs, and debt fund raising. He moved to Guernsey in 2002 where he is actively involved in the offshore finance industry and sits on the board of a number of offshore regulated companies. Andrew extends the arm of Soprano into the Channel Islands and offshore options.
